News & Interviews for Fargo: Season 4
Series creator Noah Hawley has come up with yet another ambitious, dazzling, and entertaining season of his Coen brothers-based anthology series, this time with a story that brings in themes of racism, assimilation, and the fraught promise of America.
If all of this sounds like a lot of strands to tie together, it is-but unlike in previous seasons, many of these strands really feel ancillary to the gangland drama that stodgily occupies center stage.
Fargo, as in past seasons, manages to be both more dramatic, and more comic, than almost any other show on TV right now.
Fargo has always been a little off-kilter, but those elements stand out as particularly indulgent or egregious this season, when its overall storytelling approach is so uneven.
You practically need a map, the series is so all over the place. But frustrations and all, it's a journey worth taking.
Another exemplary cast elevates wordless gestures and already witty lines into exciting entertainment, with Jessie Buckley and Glynn Turman being the overall breakouts, but this version of Fargo feels bleaker than any that preceded it.
Where does Ethelrida figure in to a gang war between adults? This reporter is eager to find out.
Fargo Season 4 is good and sometimes it is really good and comes close to the lofty goals that the series obviously has.
By the end of this leisurely-paced opener, they had yet to cohere into something of substance.
Generally, the show's greatest successes occur whenever any given pairing is allowed to simply interact, especially its foes, such as Odis with Deafy or Oraetta and Ethelrida.
Playing the game only gets Black people so far, and others near society's bottom rung enjoy feeling superior to them. The season isn't a failure, but the swing Fargo took would have connected if it utilized a better way of communicating this.
Audience Reviews for Fargo: Season 4
Jun 06, 2021It felt like it was meant to be a comedy show, but had no punchlines. Actors Jessie Buckley and E'myri Crutchfield were outstanding though...just a shame there was n't a better storyline for them.
Jun 05, 2021Enjoyed the first three seasons of Fargo and watched on Netflix. Was a bit surprised this was on free-to-air rather than Netflix, and the ad breaks didn't help. Tried very hard to watch, and made it as far as Episode 6. Unfortunately the ever increasing tedium, eye rolling pantomime villain and ridiculous plot made it increasingly unwatchable. The worst part of it all was the over dark and gloomy filming. In one unmemorable scene the only thing we could make out was a pair of eyes. In most scenes if you looked hard you could just make out some shadowy figures moving around but it was hard to figure out who they were and what they were doing. But it didn't matter much because you just didn't care anyway. This is unmitigated unwatchable rubbish and I'll never get back the six hours I wasted on it. Now it is clear why Netflix passed this one by - good for you. What is unclear is how it scores 84% on Rotten Tomatoes. Where you watching something else?
May 27, 2021Not the same show. They're ruining the franchise with this one, sadly. So disappointed.
May 21, 2021WTF??? It's really horrible season.
May 20, 2021Just binge watched series 1-3 and started on series 4. I would have rated series 1-3 as 4/5 but the new series (4) is not a patch on its predecessors. Episode 2 and it is ‘rambling'. I like multiple storylines but ones you have a sense are going somewhere, with series 4 it's just not that interesting; missing the dark humour of the previous series not engaging; and with poor characters and acting. I will persevere if I'm desperate for something to watch in the hope it improves.
May 13, 2021Worst Fargo season yet, easily. A mess.
Apr 06, 2021Although it doesn't live up to the other seasons, strong performances and more action lead to a reasonably enjoyable season.
Apr 02, 2021Not good. I loved seasons 1-3 (some of the best storylines on tv), but season 4 is just a plodding mess. The acting was decent all the way around, but I didn't care about any of the characters. Season 4 is a big swing and miss. Hopefully season 5 gets back to what made Fargo great.
Mar 27, 2021Terrible. Absolute Garbage. The first 3 seasons were great, and now this is just so bad I had to stop watching because it was so cringeworthy and painful to watch a great show that has been completely ruined. I don't know what happened. Extremely disappointed
Mar 27, 2021Story, characters, photography, sound track. Everything fits.
